I study how hype, expectations, and innovation influence our relationship with the future. My dissertation uses the asteroid mining industry of the 2010s to reconstruct hype theorizing and build new theory about the phenomenon. I engage in a mix of traditional and computationally augmented qualitative methodologies.
An overview of my current work: theory-building on hype, courses taught, and the professional service that supports the field.
Asteroid Mining and a Synthesized Theory of Hype
My flagship working paper develops a synthesized theory of hype through the case of asteroid mining, and is being prepared for submission to the Journal of Management Studies. See the Research page for the full working paper agenda.
